Education

Here’s a summary of my educational background. If you prefer lists, go to the bottom of the page.
Summary of My Educational Background
I have one little ole college degree: a BFA in photography. I studied for three years at Pratt Institute in New York and finished up at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1976, which is a really long time ago.
I started graduate school three times. First I was accepted into the journalism and mass communications program at San José State in the late seventies. I stayed there for a year, and left to get married. Silly me.
The following year I enrolled in the graduate broadcasting department at San Francisco State. It was a dicey time to study because I had a six-month-old baby by then. The deadliest blow to my studies, though, was that audio editing class I took. The minute I got my hands on a razor blade I was hooked, and quit school to become an independent producer for public radio.
Ten years later I went back to school to study counseling and educational psychology. I did quite well there, if I do say so myself, but once again left after a year, this time to have Daughter Two of Two.
Three strikes: no more matriculation for me. I spent a year taking a medium-sized handful of multimedia classes (visual design applications, html, writing, project management, etc.) in the Web’s toddler days. Since then I’ve continued to take the occasional class — from fiction writing to glass bead making — just for fun. If you ever take glass bead-making, take heed: glass can be hot even when it looks like it’s not.

Hmmm… I’m just remembering my first résumé when I was so new that I had to list my high school as part of my education. I’m way too worldly for that now. But I did go to Madame Layton’s preschool in Wilmington, Delaware, by the way. She was forever sticking me in a corner because I giggled. When I was good, though, she’d give me a single perfect walnut.
