Day 74: Day by Day

With Trump, every day a new outrage. Yesterday a tweet that glorified violence in Minneapolis. After that was hidden for violating rules, today he issued the same message again from the official White House account. The day before, it was his attempt to muzzle Twitter when the platform cautioned users to fact-check his statement. And what’s he doing with China?

And with Bessie, for her part, every day a new behavior to contend with. Oh dear. I shouldn’t have put her in a parallel construction with Evil Orange. In contrast, she is gentle and often responsive to correction. However. When I emerged from the bathroom after my morning ablutions, I found she had finally succeeded in leaping the three feet all the way up onto my bed, and the filthy beast was curled on my pillow. Too bad I’m so uptight. [I hope to figure out a way to bathe her this week, somehow.] And she hated it each time I vanished for 90 seconds to head for the washing machine in the basement. She’s bouncier today, and happily kept trying to jump up on me and Elana this morning (not okay). She sometimes whines for attention (not okay); she gets enough and, now that she’s better adjusted, I won’t provide more than I can sustain.

Can you see the squirrel right there on my porch rail, just taunting Bessie? It must have a death wish. I couldn’t get my camera to focus right, through the screen, so apologies for the blurs.

She’s pretty good on the leash. We walked by some kids today and she didn’t react one way or another, except for seeming mildly curious. I’m still taking her bone from her every day and rewarding her with turkey.

Isn’t it wonderful that, on the cusp of 66, I still have my mommy around, to send me such things as this:

Just a note to you, as you’re about to move up a year, as it were. I want you to know how very much I love you, admire you and depend on you, for my happiness!!  You are original, loving, entertaining, creative, talented, beautiful, thoughtful —  and very dear to me.

What can I say, except, how lucky am I!

Bessie has started to enjoy a game of fetch, if she’s in the mood. Anna brought her a squeaky ball that she loves.

Look what I got in the mail today. It must be from Ember and Eleni. It’s earrings with Bessie on them:

I’m wearing them now.

I retire now, to my last moments of 65-ness.
