Day 37: Music Teacher

When I saw the following video a few days ago on Facebook (where, no doubt, my loyal readers have also seen it), I loved it so much that I watched about five times. I wanted to put it up here on Bloggy but couldn’t find a non-Facebook link. Until Molly sent it to me. I don’t know about you, but the song captures my feelings about this whole pandemic experience. Even if you’ve seen it a bunch, it’s worth another viewing, in my humble opinion.

Since before I moved to my house in Albany in the mid-nineties, there’s been a wonderful shop near me, called Gathering Tribes, that sells native American arts and crafts. The owner is a generous-hearted woman who’s also a community activist. She was the first in the neighborhood to close her doors because of the virus, well before the state mandate, making a personal sacrifice for the good of others. I was sad to get her mass e-mail yesterday announcing that the store is closing forever: a casualty of the pandemic. A real loss, and only one of countless—hundreds of thousands? millions?—across the country.

Eleni sent me a shot of her dog, Garth, on the run. Extremely challenging to draw. He’s a big, boney guy who bays a lot, being part Plott Hound.

And here’s Vanilla Bean, an Australian Shepherd cross with pale blue eyes, in another of those snout-on angles that I hate.

Okay, now I truly am out of dogs to draw.

  1. Again — very good! Now — try cats (or, if you prefer, squirrels)

I think your head-on one has captured it!

  2. Oh my gosh! I’m heartbroken about Gathering Tribes closing!
I’ve bought many items from that store. The owner and the store will be missed.

    You definitely captured Garths excitement!

You’re great at drawing! Keep it up!!!

  3. Oh no! What a huge bummer about Gathering Tribes. I just checked their website/Facebook and didn’t see any announcement. I wonder if they might be able to fundraise enough to survive, or if it just ain’t possible. Very sad.

Do you need more dogs to draw? I can find you more!
