Eleni has brought forth onto this continent a new baby, conceived in liberty and as yet unnamed. He was 7 pounds, 14 ounces, 19 inches tall, 13 inches around the head. He arrived at 9:36 p.m. He has abundant black hair, as did Emmy, and is very red and wrinkly and beautiful. Eleni made it through the whole process at an alternative birth center, without any drugs. I am amazed and proud. She’s on Cloud 9.

Here’s a picture of the new little one in his elderly grandmother’s arms, shortly before he pooped on me.

    Thanks for posting this!
First of all, though: I don’t know about being “conceived in liberty”; perhaps conceived in clumsiness is more apt.
Thanks to you and to Lulu for visiting at such a late hour, and for staying to toast with sparkling cider, and for your pride and enthusiasm and all that. I love that his first-ever outfit was that gorgeous, soft owl-patterned sleep sack you knitted (which almost immediately got tarred). I was thrilled to have you there so soon after his birth (but thanks, also, for being only remotely vocal about how disappointing it must have been for you to not be invited to this one, and for supporting all of my choices despite that).
He’s so incredibly lucky to have a Mama Ginna.
    And now it begins…
