Doctors

I asked my 12 kids to write about the one profession they would least like. A third chose doctors, down there with butcher and Walmart greeter. Here’s why:

  • I like free time job. Also, it’s too boring. Check and cure people every day. I think it’s difficult for me to do the same thing every day. I don’t like biology. And I think organ is really horrible. I don’t have courage to touch. I am really afraid of the knife and organs. —Elaine
  • I don’t like the smiling about [smell of?] medicine. I am afraid of blood. Some wounds can scared me. It is a very big responsibility. Sometimes a very small mistake will kill someone. If I’m a doctor I need to accustomed to see some people lose their life and the hole family cry. That will make me to think about my grandpa who was dead. —Danly
  • My dad is a doctor. When I was three years old, my whole family lived in a hospital apartment for worker who has worked in hospital. I saw a lot of people died or got health. I never forget the smell from this hospital. If you live in the hospital, you will see people cry, people yell, people happy, people nervos, etc. I think that hospital is a hell when I was a child. Because people have a lot of pain, that is why they came to hospital. Some people died. They maybe went to the heaven or the hell. So that is why I don’t want to do it. —Daisy

And why not Walmart?

  • A Walmart greeter works from morning to evening. Their work is to say something to the customers. When they see the customers then they have to say hello, good buy and have a good weekend. —Ripon

  1. The two jobs are nearly the same thing, ain’t they?

The third lass’s description of hospitals is quite harrowing.

Your students are very cute. I wish *I’d* had assignments as thought-provoking as that in *my* language classes.

  2. So, the children have spoken. Hospitals are depressing. Every time my wife sees one on TV, she has horrible flash backs of delivery (and hers wasn’t so bad comparatively.)

  3. @Molly: yes, her description is unnerving.
@Ryan: I enjoyed your comment. (Do I know you?) Isn’t that awful that the memory of something so amazing as birth can be stained by bad medicine. I also have hospital anxiety after a two-night stay a couple years ago. I NEVER want to stay in a hospital again.

  4. To Small: Two didn’t want to be accountants (I couldn’t agree more) and one, I think, didn’t want to collect trash because they’d get cold in the morning. I forget the others. Wuv.

  5. I thoroughly agree with the latter two. (And no-one in his right mind would WANT me to be an accountant for him!) And what DID they want to be when they grow up?? Or are they Peter Pans? M.

  6. *I* want you to be an accountant for me. You’re the most frightening organized person I know, and you’d even befriend a number in that noble cause. The assignment about what they did want to be was so long ago that I forgot. I think one said something like “a very successful person.” A few are computer nerd types. I remember nothing after that.
