Cultural Differences

I am to leave for Vietnam in just over a week. While the idea of this trip has been around for a little while, it hasn’t been real for long, and thus seems like it’s barreling toward me quicker than usual. I have my plane reservations. Am trying to book a hotel for my arrival, with no success so far. On the Web site of the one I want to stay, there is this advisory:

Under Vietnamese law, a guest who is not a Vietnamese citizen cannot share a room with a Vietnamese citizen without proof of marriage to each other. Otherwise, a second room must be booked.

Like the posted prohibitions on prostitution that I saw in Tibetan hotels, this has little impact on my plans.
