Alone in the Mountains

I just got back from my first solo backpacking trip. The mountains were magical but not enough to lift me from my funk.

Here’s a slideshow I made. It starts at Plumas-Eureka State Park and the nearby Johnsville Cemetery and meanders on up to Rock Lake and environs, where I camped. I put the thing together with software I learned about at a Knight Media training session. It’s called SoundSlides. Its being super-easy to use didn’t prevent me from spending a zillion hours assembling the thang. The hardest part was picking just the right music that reflected the mood of my journey. I must say I did a brilliant job.

If you have a way faster Internet connection than I, you can click the little box with arrows at the lower right corner of the screen to watch a full-size version, which is much prettier.

  1. Maybe more blog posts will lift you out of your funk.

I know if you posted more it’d be funky!

(A beautiful trip, as exhibited by your slide show. Next time you go backpacking alone, I’d like to come with :O) )

  2. Hi Ginna

Jill sent me your way.. you and I met in the Eagle Crek Campground.
Loved your trinity vids and this one too. congrats on your first solo pack trip!

    Great blog site too.

I had a weird trip all around, news this week is that fire I saw ended up burning right through where I was camped, it just took awhile.
My pics aren’t up yet as my sis in law has the camera and just got diagonosed with lymphoma or some pre cancer thing so needless to say I am not calling her and bugging her to send me a CD.
Will let you know and you can see the whole story.

Meanwhile, catching up on work from being away on vacation and resting up/laundry today.

Kind of funked out myself lately, and all my practice is is…
    Keep showing up.
    be well

  3. We shoulda done this together! I know it wouldna’ ha’ been your first solo backtrip, but it coulda been ours! Love your fusing of lyrics, music and images. I wish I’d been there to ruin your wonder with tales of “pistol butt trees”, pater nastor lakes and roof pendants! What I want to know is how you can be in a funk, when you have such a magnificent landscape to keep you company and serve your every visual and aural desire! (I know, I know, funk-ness knows no bounds or rules. It just is, kinda like a bacteria or atmospheric condition. But eventually you open your eyes to a beautiful dawn or a shimmering sunset, and you notice it’s abated, and maybe even flown the coop, when you weren’t paying attention.)

  4. That’s a beautiful place. I’ll look it up on my map. Life goes on here at the junkyard. I am a mere few days away from applying for social security! How fast life runs away. Blue sky, sun shine, and cold clear water. It’s the best.

  5. Hey, y’all: Thank you SO much for your comments. I can’t tell you how much I love that you 1) actually read this shite and 2) take the time to write a reply. You’re the best.

    Love,
    Ginna
