Report from the Water Line

This is a post for Dan. Hi, Dan.

It’s raining and it’s 1:00 a.m., so it seems a good time to descend into the dark to check out the addition. It’s been drizzling all day and raining in earnest for a couple hours, and (so far) things are looking much better than last time. In this first picture I’m facing uphill toward the basement, and while the cement is dry you can an area starting to get damp:

[Click on the images to enlarge them; they open in a new window.]

This second picture is facing the same direction, but now I’m in the addition. This is where the water was springing from last time. It’s still dry, but you can see a couple spots starting to get a little saturated:

And here’s a shot of the same place but from the other side of the wall. I’m facing downhill toward the addition, where you’ve put the second [and still unnamed] sump pump. What’s interesting is that water is pouring in — fairly enthiastically and steadily — on the downhill side, at the south corner. So it’s coming in from the driveway area, rather than from the street, which seems odd to me:

And finally, there’s some leaking at this window, which is also a little mysterious to me since it’s somewhat sheltered by the deck above and not directly in the rain — and the other windows seem nice and dry so far:

Hopefully this is useful for your detective work.

So long for now. Have a terribly fun holiday and I’ll see ya when we return from Central America. (Everything will be done by then, right?)
